RISING
STAR WEDNESDAY, Sept 8, 2010 J.D. EDWARDS – Artist
Appreciation

J.D.
EDWARDS: is a fine solo acoustic singer songwriter,
based Winnipeg, and he is equally a seasoned rock and
roll bandleader and composer and a trombone player and
an amazing singer.
His
songs are for real and his musicianship is for real. In
some ways he reminds us of Dave Matthews but more for
his intensity as a performer than for his writing. J.D.
is a poet marching only to the beat of his own drum and
in doing so he has created a unique body of work mature
in its understanding of the human condition and good to
listen to.
“…The
night began with J.D. Edwards, a solo guitar player with
a voice so intense you can see the passion of music he
has flowing out of him. I was most impressed with the
movement and energy he showed on stage - always swaying
about, not seeming to sit still and showing how much he
feels the music. With J.D., you could tell he played
with his whole body and soul…” Gabby D’Angelo -

Thursday, Sept 9,
2010 -- AMBRE MCLEAN & GABRIELLE PAPILLON

Ambre McLean "Must
Have been Born to it” says CBC 3’s Craig Norris. “Ambre’s
a brilliant player, a brilliant songwriter and a
brilliant performer.
Ambre McLean has created a sound that is entirely her
own incorporating a number of her influences including
jazz, country/blues folk and pop. Ambre linked up with
VIA rail this summer as part of VIA's 'Musician on
Board" program and is currently on tour in western
Canada, promoting the release of her new album
"Murder At The Smokehouse" (2010) and a second
release of "I Wonder If" ("Summon
Me" is featured in Canadian Indie film NEVERLOST,
CKUA radio play).
After many years of being in bands including Kyn and
Sharon Said., Ambre emerged with her first solo EP “Just
Passing Through” in 2004. Since embarking on a solo
career Ambre has released 5 other CD’s (all available
on Itunes).

Gabrielle Papillon,
first at Vintage Bistro on "Rising Star
Wednesdays" is back again, sharing the stage with
Ambre McLean.
Gabrielle released her first album in 2001 and then
tabled her music career for nearly eight years she
completed her B.A. and her Master's degree only to
emerge with fresh tunes in her head and a more developed
musical style the depth of which she attributes to her
eight years of study and "growing up" in
general.
She just finished studio recording a professional
demo funded by a FACTOR grant on the heels of recording
her EP The Wanderer (2010) this past fall, with help
from some talented musicians and a dynamic pair of
producers from the publishing company Grafton Street
Songs.
Gabrielle plays several times a year at the Yellow
Door-her favorite local haunt--as well as around
Montreal, Toronto, and Halifax where she played at the
In The Dead of Winter Festival in January 2010.
Influenced by guitar slinging troubadours such as Ani
Difranco, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon her
music is often about a feeling. Her muse is the
amalgamation of people in her life, or an imaginary
scenario. Above all she loves the journey of a song.
